At HV, we understand that unforeseen expenses can occur and sometimes you may not have enough money in your account to cover unexpected costs. Instead of simply denying the charges due to insufficient funds, we offer two payment protection options:

Overdraft Protection

In the event you have non-sufficient funds in your checking account when a transaction is presented, you can have the funds automatically transferred from your Savings, Special Savings, or Money Market account.

Unforeseen circumstances happen to us all...and usually at just the wrong time! You make an honest mistake in your checkbook and it leaves you a "little short" to cover all of your outstanding checks. 
Or imagine the embarrassment of being left standing with a cart full of groceries because your debit card was declined or standing at an ATM expecting cash only to have your request denied. In addition to covering your checks, we are able to cover your ATM and everyday debit card transactions to help avoid these kinds of potentially embarrassing situations. However, to be protected by this service, you must give your "opt-in" authorization.

What does it cover?

With Courtesy Pay, we may approve everyday debit card and ATM transactions for you, at our discretion, when you don't have sufficient funds.

How does it help you?

When you don't have enough funds in your checking account to pay for an unexpected situation, our new Courtesy Pay "opt-in" feature would allow your debit card and ATM transactions to be authorized at our discretion in addition to covering your checks and ACH transactions. 

How much does it cost?

  • NO FEE to keep Heritage Valley's Courtesy Pay Protection on your account as a safeguard.

  • NO FEE if you never use the service.

  • If you overdraw your account, you'll pay a $35 fee each time you use your debit card without sufficient funds.

In order for your account to be protected by this service you must complete and submit the required information below. If there are multiple owners on the ATM and/or debit card account, either owner can act on behalf of all owners on this account as defined in our Membership Account Agreement. Only one (1) account owner signature is needed to add the overdraft coverage. Once your information has been submitted, we will email you a confirmation letting you know this additional protection has been added to your account.
  • If Courtesy Pay is used, HV will review the cost of the transaction and if approved, in essence will front those costs, up to your approved limit, for a small fee of $35.00 per covered item.

  • The full amount of the overdraft balance is due immediately, or at the latest, within 30 days from the date of the occurrence.

Please note: To have this benefit applied to your ATM/Debit card transactions, you must be opted-in. Every member is automatically enrolled for check/ACH transactions.

HV provides a variety of premium tools to help you keep in touch with account activity at your convenience. Check balances, transfer funds, and pay bills at any time, from anywhere. By using these free tools to manage your account balances, you may be able to avoid a budget oversight which could put your account at risk for unnecessary fees or declined debit card transactions.
